Life group FAQ's
What is a Life Group?
Life Groups at MVCC are ongoing communities of Believers who "do life" together by caring for one another and studying God's Word together. They focus on developing and deepening their relationships to God, other Believers, and nonbelievers. Life Groups gather for fellowship, study, service, and prayer. However, Life Groups are much more than a meeting! We encourage Life Group members to live in life-on-life relationship together. Life Groups are for adults of all ages, stages of life, and spiritual maturity.

Why does MVCC have a Life Group Ministry?

God designed His people to live in vital relationship. We belong to God and to one another. Life Groups allow communities of Believers to live out the purpose of MVCC while engaging in our five core practices. Life Group relationships and practices can be lived out fully and meaningfully in smaller, more intimate groups. While our Sunday Worship services are crucial to the MVCC practice of Worship, people can still remain isolated or anonymous in such a large group. Life Groups facilitate individual growth, support, care, and relationships.

When do Life Groups meet?
Life Groups at MVCC vary in the frequency of their meeting. Some Life Groups meet weekly, others meet on designated weeks. Generally, they meet on Sunday through Thursday nights.
Where do Life Groups meet?
Some of our groups meet consistently in one home, while others choose to take turns meeting in different members' homes. Some Life Groups coordinate their meetings with children's ministries at the church and meet in rooms not being used by those ministries.

What should I expect at a typical Life Group meeting?

Each Life Group is unique, so each group's meetings will be a little different. In general, meetings are one-and-a-half to two hours long. They often start with a social time, transition into a group study and discussion time, and end in prayer. Some groups share a meal together.

Are children welcome at Life Group meetings?

Each group determines what their childcare needs are and how to best handle them. Some of the groups provide childcare, while other groups have children remain with their parents for the entire meeting.
What do groups study?
Each group/leader decides what study the group will be involved with. There are a number of options (sermon based study, video driven study, book study, or picking one of the books of the Bible). In sermon-based study the groups are provided with additional questions and resources to take the message preached on Sunday a bit further. However, a number of the groups will study topics, or portions of Scripture that meet the needs of the group. The pastoral staff is available to help guide you when and if the need arises and to resource the leader as best as possible.
How do I choose a Life Group?
Because Life Groups reach out to their surrounding neighborhoods, we encourage you to choose a Life Group that meets near your home. You will also want to choose a group that meets on a night that you are available. Fill out the form below, or check the Life Group desk in the foyer on Sunday for a listing of group locations and times. If you're still not sure about which group you should join, feel free to contact us. We'd love to help you find a group!
How do I get connected to a Life Group?
If you already know which Life Group you would like to join, you can contact the Life Group leader or a group member directly. You can also contact the office at MVCC, the staff would be happy to help you connect to a group.
